Este artículo argumenta la necesidad de reemplazar el anticuado Historial Clínico (HC) en soporte papel por el Historial Clínico Electrónico (HCE). Se justifica mediante la enumeración de las ventajas que su uso aporta a pacientes, investigadores, profesionales de la salud, administradores, etc. Tomando como base diferentes publicaciones, se presentan los obstáculos más importantes que limitan la implantación de este tipo de sistemas de HCE y se sugirieren medidas y soluciones a aplicar en cada caso.


This article argues for the need to replace the antiquated paper-based Clinical History (CH) with the Electronic Health Record (EHR). It can be justified by spelling out the advantages that its use can bring to the patients, researchers, health professionals, administrators, etc. Using different publications as a base, we will present the major obstacles which limit the implementation of this type of EHR system and we will suggest ways and means of applying it in each case.
